Dr. Shahim Abdurahiman, a registered architect with the Council of Architecture, India, holds a PhD in Architecture and Planning from the National Institute of Technology Calicut, a master's in Architectural Conservation from School of Planning and Architecture Delhi (Gold medallist), and a Bachelor's in Architecture from NIT Calicut. A recipient of the Young Architect Award 2014 (Malayalam Manorama Parpidam), he is an active member of Indian Institute of Architects (IIA), ICOMOS India, INTACH, and the Indian Conservation Architects' Community (ICAC).
His academic journey includes positions as Assistant Professor at NIT Calicut and MES College of Architecture before joining the Jindal School of Design & Architecture (JSDA) as an Assistant Professor. He is currently also serving as the Assistant Dean & Program Coordinator for the B.Arch and International dual degree programs.
Professionally, Dr. Shahim has led significant projects including the Kuttichira and Tali pond Urban Revitalization projects, Fort Kochi 30-Year Vision, Calicut Beach Redevelopment, Thalassery Heritage Project, and Kavaratti Smart City Project. He co-leads Brown Caravan, an independent practice specializing in residential architecture and heritage conservation, combining contextual awareness with innovative design approaches.
His teaching and research focus on urban heritage conservation, Islamic architecture, Islamic urbanism and cultural landscapes, bridging historical study with contemporary urban challenges. A prolific author, he continues to publish in peer-reviewed journals, contributing to discussions on sustainable urbanism, cultural heritage and conservation. He has served as an invited jury member at leading architecture schools across India, contributes actively to academic and professional forums on architecture and heritage, and serves as a reviewer for various international journals and conferences.
